How to prepare your Cmos battery with wires to fit in your laptop from the new one. This is really simple I have shown it at great length just for your benefit in case you are not sure about something. Tools needed,
It will also be supplied with a small amount of heat shrink tubing (the two little black bits shown) to insulate the connected wires makes things easy Make sure that both pieces of shrink wrap are still on the long side of the cable, as it was supplied How to prepare the connector from your old Cmos battery
This is your old battery (or similar)
Now the important bit. Remove the plastic heat shrink cover off the cell and check that your original cell is the same group than the one you are replacing it with (using a non rechargeable instead of a rechargeable one can cause the battery to explode) DL CR ECR BR KCR or LM are non rechargeable & must be replaced with another CR or BR Non rechargeable otherwise you will be in problems. (the BR is a better longer lasting version of the cr and is the one we normally supply) ML LIR or VL Must be replaced with another ML or VL Rechargeable coin cell, The ML cells are not sold on the open market, so the newer VL is the normal replacement Now you have checked that the battery type is correct (this is a cr2025 cr (non rechargeable) 20 (diameter 20mm 25 height 2.5mm). Check that the original is wired as follows, the top is red and positive the bottom is black and negative (your old one may not have been wired up correctly, but it needs to be the same again if it was working originally)
Cut your old connector and cables of the old cell as near as possible to the actual cell to allow as much of the old cable to remain Bare 8-10 mm of the wires at the end and twist them in preparation for the new cable
This is your new cell pre prepared, wire ends already bared and twisted, and the heat shrink rubber tubing already on ready to insulate the connector from the old battery when installed
Take the red cable from the old connector (bared as above) and cross it over with the one from the cell.
Twist tightly again and again until all of the bared lead is well wound together. Then double up the bare twisted wire to give an even better connection.
Do the same with the black cables
Now pull the heat shrink rubber insulator down over the bare connections as shown. Heat till till it shrinks and seals and insulates both joints. This can be done with a lighter, a match etc. don't heat up the battery.
You are ready to install the battery back into your system. Possible problems if all is not ok. Your new battery will be ok and fully charged, so:
The other faults may be: Broken track on the main board to the bios battery connector corrupt Cmos chip.
